WealthFund CRM: two connected Dynamics 365 apps for an investment firm

WealthFund: research, pipelines and clients connected

Investment research, pipelines, clients and prospects now sit in two connected apps on one database, with access set by role, and pipeline and client reports take about half the time to prepare.

The challenge

Peninsula Capital is an investment firm. It needed to manage investment research and deal pipelines on one side, and clients and prospects on the other, with each person seeing only the information they should. Some of that information is sensitive. Day-to-day office and admin tasks also took time that could have gone into investment work.

What we built

We built WealthFund CRM as two Microsoft Dynamics 365 apps (model-driven apps, in Microsoft's terms). One manages investment research and pipelines. The other manages clients and prospects. Both run on the same Dataverse database, the database behind Dynamics 365, so a company or contact is recorded once and both apps see the same record.

We set up permissions in Dataverse so each person sees only what their role needs. Research, pipeline and client information sit side by side, and nobody sees more than they should.

We also built custom web apps that automate office tasks, admin and other everyday work. They take over repetitive tasks that used to take staff time.

Key features

  • One app for investment research and pipelines
  • One app for clients and prospects
  • Both apps share one Dataverse database
  • Permissions that control who sees what
  • Custom web apps for office automation
  • Automations for admin and everyday tasks

Results

2Connected Dynamics 365 apps on one shared database
~50% lessTime to assemble pipeline and client reports
~30% lessTime on routine office admin, after the automations

The firm manages research, pipelines, clients and prospects in two connected apps on one database. Reports that used to be put together by hand now come from live data, and we estimate they take about half the time. With the automations in place, staff spend about 30% less time on routine office and admin work, in our estimate. Both figures are estimates, not audited measurements.

Figures marked ~ are estimates, not audited measurements.

Why it matters

Investment firms hold information that is both valuable and sensitive. With two apps on one database and access set by role, each team gets the view it needs and nobody copies data between tools. Any firm that tracks deals and relationships could use the same setup.
